OK, so I haven't blogged in FOREVER. Life happens. Hubby came home from 7 months at war and other things have just been a higher priority. Understandable, no??
LB has been cracking me up with his little comments lately. He is such a little MAN now. SO charming and sweet (except during tantrums).
The other day he was riding the city bus with his sitter to the library, and there was a young man with an orange mohawk on the bus. LB exclaimed (at his usual 200 decibels), "Hey Mindy, that boy looks like a chicken!" Well, if you're going to have such a, um, progressive hairstyle, I suppose you need to have a thick skin for such comments.
When I picked him up the other day after work, he drew my attention to the fact that Mindy's husband's truck was parked on the grass with a small tow-trailer attached filled with wood scraps and other things. LB said, "Yeah, he did that because he needs to take a dump." I said, "You mean he needs to GO to the dump?" Brief silence, then "Um, yeah!! That's it!! TO the dump."
We went through a period right after Hubby got home where LB started throwing fits when we dropped him off at the sitter. He has been there almost a year and loves Mindy dearly, so this was a bit disturbing, but we figured it was part of his readjustment to Daddy coming home. We had a few turbulent weeks of kicking and screaming, though, which only really smoothed over completely in the past few weeks.
So, I found it pretty hilarious when some new toddlers joined the sitter's home daycare, and LB commented with disdain, "Mommy, those new kids don't want their mommies to leave! They get SO upset!" Like a certain little boy I know...
I was pretty impressed by my kids' imagination the other day. We had an unseasonably warm day for our area and I kicked them outside to play in the yard. They took the sidewalk chalk out, and later came in and asked for a few of LBs big cars and trucks. Why not?
It turns out, they had made a huge map of our town on the driveway with chalk -- with big boxes labeled with their favorite places, school, church, our gym. etc, all connected by a two-lane road that they drove LB's cars around -- all while acting out various play scenarios. They were out there happy as clams for almost two hours doing this.
Reason #126 why my children do not play video games.
