At the Portage Glacier visitor's center, you can go right on the shore of Portage Lake.  There are bits of glacier in the lake that you can reach out and touch, and if you watch them long enough, you can see sections of the glacier "calve," or break off.  It makes this loud creaking noise and creates tidal waves.  What a cool thing to watch!
