Today was our last day of long driving, as we made our way to Seattle. From there it will be a short jaunt to Bellingham to catch the ferry to Alaska. But first, we stopped off at Grand Coulee Dam.
Indeed. We toured the Visitor's Center, where the kids were impressed to learn that the dam builders consumed 3,000 pancakes with 25 gallons of syrup on any given morning. They also had a blast playing with all the demonstration exhibits that show how a dam generates power. LB, of course, just loved having a large open space to run in. Also, he is very consistent in his plan to commemorate each monument/landmark/national park with a poopy diaper.
After our brief educational tour we had a nice picnic right next to the dam. LB was continually in awe of the massive amounts of "Wawa" in sight; fortunately there are plenty of safeguards to prevent an impromptu swim.
As we departed through the town of Grand Coulee, Hubby spotted this fine establishment, which we just had to visit, after reading their hot pink sign boasting of "24 and more!" flavors of soft-serve ice cream. While the "Tee Pee Drive-In Diner" certainly lacked a certain chic aesthetic, the ice cream was delicious. It was a neat little family owned place, in business since 1937, and the locals poured in the door in a steady stream while we were there.
We ready to pile back in the car for the last 4 hours of driving and enjoy a nice nap after the sugar crash. Except for Daddy, 'cause he's driving.
We'll have a few days to play around in Seattle before we board the "big boat" to Alaska!
